Today, we are celebrating the 349th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and last Guru, who was creator of gracious Khalsa, which was given concrete form in 1699. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was son of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, grandson of Sri Guru Hargobind Ji, and great-grandson of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and was born in Patna, Bihar on22ndDecember 1666according toJulian calendar.Sri Guru Gobind Singh birthday, or Prakash is calculated according to the NanakshahiSikhism calendar and is variably celebrated every year.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji covered thousands of miles from his birthplaceto Sri Anandpur Saheb in 1672, where his early education included reading and writing of Punjabi, Braj, Sanskrit and Persian; then to Sri Paonta Saheb in 1685, where he practiced riding, swimming and archery; Talvandi Sabo and then back to Sri Anandpur Saheb. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji had natural genius for poetic composition, resulting in Chandi Di Var also known as Var Sri Bhagauti Ji, based on Markandeya Purana. It describes the conflict between the Gods and the Demons.
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was formally declared as Guru on the 29 of March 1676. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji believed in and practiced Simplicity, Honesty and Trust throughout his life and had been critical of false ritual practices that obscure from man of God the need to lead transparent life. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji teaching included filtering out lust, anger, arrogance, greediness, stubbornness from one mind. Also, to seek blessings from your teachers is one of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji teaching. To recognize Inner Truth (as Trust is the only God) through meditation and chanting was preached by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
